YOMG stands for Yo My Goodness, and it’s a busy restaurant in Glen Waverley which specialises in burgers, shakes and frozen yogurt. One glance at the menu and you see they are pretty serious about their burgers. There’s two options for vegetarians.
I chose the Miss Fu, which is also vegan and gluten-free. The centrepiece was a vegetable fritter, which was very tasty. On top of that was vegan cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, crispy sweet potato, tomato sauce and tofu mayo. And all this was in a vegan bun, which tasted pretty good for gluten-free, although it was quite solid.
The sauces were a little overpowering – there were a bit too many flavours going on in this burger. And the bun, while nice, was a bit too big and dense for the rest of the burger. I put that down to it being gluten-free, but I’m sure many people would be very happy to see gluten-free options on the menu.
The chips came with ‘secret seasoning’ and they were very nice. The seasoning had a smokiness that reminded me of bacon – in a good way. I also got a tofu mayo dipping sauce and that was just as good as its egg-based cousin.
I don’t often mention the price, but at $16 this was one of the more expensive burgers I’ve had. I’m sure some of the vegan and gluten-free elements increased the cost.
